About the estate

Madhu Agro Plantation: A Legacy of Love and Dedication

Madhu Agro Plantation is the heart and soul of Mrs. T. Nirmala Reddy, a passionate septuagenarian who has been nurturing this 45-acre coffee farm since it was established in 1996 by her late husband. Originally intended as a peaceful post-retirement retreat, the plantation has blossomed under Mrs. Reddy's tireless care into a thriving coffee farm. It’s intercropped with a variety of spices like cinnamon, bay leaf, ginger, and pepper, as well as an abundance of plants and over 20 types of fruits, including jamun, jackfruit, bananas, oranges, passion fruit, custard apple, chikoo, and guava.

In 2014, the plantation faced significant challenges. The sudden passing of Mrs. Reddy's husband and the devastation caused by Cyclone Hudhud, which uprooted many shade trees and damaged coffee plants, were major setbacks. However, the farm is on a path to recovery, thanks to the return of Mrs. Reddy's daughter, Rajeshwari, from Australia. Together, they have transformed Madhu Agro Plantation into the only women-run coffee farm in the region, with a workforce primarily composed of tribal women.

Despite ongoing challenges, including environmental damage and labor shortages due to nearby quarrying activities, as well as the occasional monkey menace, the mother-daughter duo has continued to innovate. They have adopted practices like varietal segregation and advanced post-harvest processing techniques to produce some of the best coffees in the region.

Storage Instructions

  • Keep your coffee beans in an air-tight container. The container should be made of a material that is not prone to moisture.
  • Keep your coffee beans in the original packaging you received, since it is food safe, and resistant to moisture, and you can remove the air from the bag once you close the bag.
  • Store your beans in a cool, dry place. Avoid storing them in areas that are exposed to direct sunlight or humidity.
  • Whole beans are more resilient to flavor change than ground coffee, so it is best to store them in whole-bean form.
  • Try to buy coffee in small quantities that you are likely to consume within a few weeks. This will help to ensure that the beans remain as fresh as possible.
  • Try to avoid storing coffee beans in the fridge or freezer. This can cause the beans to absorb moisture and degrade in quality.
