Syphon (Vaccum Pot) Brew Guide

What You Need:

  • Syphon (Vacuum Pot)
  • Medium-coarse ground coffeee
  • Water
  • Heat Source
  • Scale
  • Timer

Method:

Step 1: Set Up the Syphon:

  1. Assemble the syphon by attaching the filter chain to the bottom of the siphon tube.
  2. Place the cloth or paper filter into the filter assembly, making sure it's secure.

Step 2: Weigh and Grind Coffee:

  1. Weigh the desired amount of coffee beans. A common ratio is 1:15 (e.g., 30g coffee for 450ml water).
  2. Grind the coffee to a medium-coarse consistency, similar to sea salt.

Step 3: Add Water:

  1. Fill the bottom chamber of the syphon with the appropriate amount of water.
  2. Attach the top chamber securely to create a vacuum seal.

Step 4: Heat Water:

  1. Place the syphon on a heat source and bring the water to a boil.
  2. As the water rises to the top chamber, add the ground coffee. Stir gently to ensure even saturation.

Step 5: Brew Time:

  1. Start the timer and let the coffee steep for about 1-2 minutes.
  2. Stir the coffee grounds gently after about 30 seconds to facilitate an even extraction.

Step 6: Remove Heat Source:

  1. Once the brewing is complete, remove the syphon from the heat source.
  2. As the air in the bottom chamber cools, it creates a vacuum, pulling the brewed coffee through the filter back down.

Step 7: Serve and Enjoy:

  1. Separate the top and bottom chambers, and gently swirl the coffee to mix.
  2. Pour the brewed coffee into your cup, savouring the unique flavours captured by the syphon.

Optional Tips:

  • Experiment with different coffee beans to discover diverse flavor profiles.
  • Adjust the coffee-to-water ratio to suit your taste preferences.
  • Explore different grind sizes to influence extraction.

Cleaning:

  1. Carefully remove the filter assembly and discard the used coffee grounds.
  2. Rinse all parts thoroughly with warm water after each use.
